While at the park, guests can also grab a bite to eat the Mountain View Cafe or have a cookout and play games at the park's recreation area, which features gas barbecue grills, large open spaces, picnic shelters, and a playground. Here, guests can also see butterflies at the Don Sands Butterfly Walk and the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Viewing Platform.
To see even more flora and fauna while enjoying a leisurely stroll, guests can visit Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World, where they will find tranquil paths winding through 16 acres of diverse gardens interspersed with waterfalls, ponds, and picnic spots. Here, guests can also walk through three aviaries that are home to more than 600 birds, including Australian cockatoos, exotic parrots, and macaws.
For a refreshing swim in a lush, forested setting, guests can head to Gardners Falls, where they will find idyllic swimming holes at the bottom of mild waterfalls. Adventurous guests can also go whizzing through the air on a pair of rope swings they will find next to the swimming holes.
To enjoy a larger space in which to swim, guests can visit Lake Baroon, where they can also go boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Near the lake, guests can also go hiking at Kondalilla National Park, where they will find two circuits, one of which takes about 45 minutes, the other of which takes about two hours. Here, they will also find another swimming hole beneath a waterfall and more birdwatching opportunities amid a subtropical rainforest, eucalypt forests, and stands of piccabeen palms and hoop pines.
Another option for hiking is Dularcha National Park, where guests will find three trails that can also be used for mountain biking and horseback riding. The park also provides yet another prime spot for birdwatching, with 255 species having been documented to date.
