This cottage is located on a 40-acre retreat in Clare, South Australia, where it is set on the edge of an escarpment overlooking the Clare Valley and the Blyth Plains. Guests will be blown away by the 180-degree views of the latter, with visibility extending all the way out to 100 kilometers. This is one of the BIG Australian panoramas.

The owners, Ian and Narelle Roberts, grow around 400 species of plants each year, most of which are rare in cultivation, and sell them at their plant nursery adjacent to their Gallery in Blyth. These are also planted on the cottage property and are available for guests´ exclusive enjoyment. With approximately 8,000 plants comprising 1,200 Australian species, including banksias, melaleucas, hakeas, grevilleas, and eucalyptus, hours can be spent finding and photographing the more spectacular flowers. Something is in bloom all year round. You will also find many species of birds amongst the plants, including honeyeaters, lorikeets, Diamond Firetail Finches, parrots, pardalotes, and kookaburras. Grey Kangaroos and euros are frequent visitors.

The surrounding Clare Valley region is full of vineyards and wineries for guests to enjoy. Mad Bastard Winery, Knappstein Enterprise Winery and Brewery, Tim Adams Wines, Pikes Wines, and Mitchell Wines are just some of the establishments that guests will find nearby. Guests will also find an abundance of restaurants and galleries in the quaint towns that dot the area, such as Clare, Sevenhill, Watervale, Mintaro, Auburn, and Polish Hill River. The location is about two hours from Adelaide, where guests will find the nearest international airport.

Guests will find more than 40 wineries and vineyards to enjoy in the surrounding Clare Valley region. They can visit many of them by biking on the 35-kilometer Reisling Trail. Other trails for biking and hiking include the Rattler Trail, the Mawson Trail, the Heysen Trail, and the Lavender Federation Trail. The shorter Lomandra Walk Trail at Blyth is planted with flora native to the Blyth Plains & Brooks lookout off the Clare Blyth Road has a short walk through hills vegetation. For dining, guests will find a variety of cafes, bistros, restaurants, and pubs right in Clare, with more options in the nearby towns of Blyth, Sevenhill, Watervale, Mintaro, Auburn, and Polish Hill River. In these towns, guests will also find craft stores and art galleries, including Medika Gallery where Cottage owner Ian Roberts paints birds and flowers.
