The capital city, Brussels, is a must-see destination for anyone looking to visit Belgium. Things to do in Brussels range from a visit to the main square, Grand Place (Grote Markt)—which is home to Brussels Town Hall (Hôtel de ville de Bruxelles), as well as the city’s historic Guild Houses (Gildehuizeb)—to the Saint-Michel Cathedral, a Gothic church started in 1225, with twin towers and spectacular stained-glass windows. An icon of the city is the famous Mannekin Pis statue on the nearby Rue de l’Etuve; this funny little statue has totally infiltrated Brussels pop culture and you’ll find souvenirs, graffiti, and more all over the city referencing the boy. Then, there is the royal family’s official residence, the Palais Royale (Koningsplein), home to the actual residence and the excavated Coudenberg Palace Archaeological Site Adjacent to the palace is The Mont des Arts, home to several museums, including the Belgian Royal Museum of Fine Arts, which features an ancient art wing and a modern art wing. Still, you have the comic strip murals that decorate the sides of buildings all across the city, the Mini Europe attractions park, the Atomium sculpture, and so much more. Although when you think of beach holidays you may not immediately think of Belgium, that is precisely the reason that the beaches in Belgium are such a great destination. Totally unpretentious and without huge crowds, Belgium’s coast offers several excellent choices for those looking for sun and sand. Knokke-Heist is one of Belgium’s best-known beach resort communities, located near the Dutch border. Only about 20 kilometers from Bruges, the town has four beaches spread across the 12 kilometers of coast, plus many walking, hiking, and cycling trails that weave their way through the sand dunes. Knokke is also home to a number of different art galleries as well as museums about local and Belgian history. Then there is the town of Ostend, the main ferry point between Belgium and the UK. Apart from being a port, Ostend is home to several seaside resorts and beaches, with a beautiful promenade that runs along the five beaches. One last beach town close to Bruges is Blankenberge. Whether you’re searching for a weekend getaway or planning a longer holiday, Belgium’s national parks are not a thing you want to miss. The national parks in Belgium are nothing short of stunning and numerous. While we can’t begin to review all these outdoor spaces, here are a few of our favorites. Hoge Kempen National Park is the Limburg region and is a unique nature reserve protected 5,700 hectares of land. The park offers hikes with great views of broad pine woods and beautiful lakes. The Hoge Kempen is home to more than 6,000 types of fauna and flora. Visitors can witness vultures, falcons and other prey birds swooping in between the trees, while nightjars, deer, snakes, and European honey beewolves are also found here. Eifel Nature Park is another one not to be missed. Home to wild pigs, deer, and even lynx, Eifel Nature Park is a truly wild destination. Full of blue lakes and thick forests, the park covers about 110 square kilometers in southwest Belgium. Then there is also De Zoom Park, Burdinale and Mehaigne National Park, The Zwin Park, and the Nature Park of the Two Ourthes. Take your pick of Belgian national parks and get outdoors!

If you ask us, the best time to go to Belgium would be between April and June or September and October. The spring and autumn seasons have great weather and don’t have the crowds of the high season. High season in Belgium is during the summer months, between June and August. The winter months, November to February are low season, but it is during these months you can also find spectacular Christmas markets and crazy carnivals, like during the Lent season. Summer temperatures in Belgium are usually around 25°C ( 77° F), while winters can be quite cold and average around 3°C (38°F).
