Blogger Hilda Castillo, of World Worth Wandering, recently went on a fairytale glamping experience and stayed in a bell tent in Nevada City, California, and we’re so lucky she’s decided to share with us her travel tips and insight from her time spent glamping on the West Coast.
What are the three words you would use to describe the glamping site you stayed at?
Unique, peaceful, and beautiful.
How do you plan your vacations?
I like to plan my trips around the number of outdoor options available. I am also drawn to unique, hands-on opportunities and experiences.
What was around the destination?
The old town of Nevada City was within walking distance of our bell tent—so many dining options and cute shops! There were also a few hikes that started right from the property, including one that lead to a suspension bridge that is 150 feet long and hangs over 60 above the river in the middle of the forest! The Yuba River was also a short and beautiful drive from our bell tent and was some of the clearest water I’ve ever laid eyes on.
What was the style of the glamping site like?
Walking into the campsite literally felt like I was walking into a real-life fairy garden. Not kidding. The neighboring town had a very down-to-earth, hippie feel, with very friendly people.
What else can you tell us about the accommodation?
In addition to the bell tent experience, this property works as a bed and breakfast and has some of the nicest hosts I’ve ever met. Guests of the bell tent get to join the bed and breakfast guests for breakfast at the house every morning, where we sat on an outdoor deck overlooking the creek and waterfall—dreamy!
How would you describe your glamping style? Chic and stylish or rustic and outdoorsy?
Definitely outdoorsy. I don’t have time to be too particularly stylish when I’m “roughing it.” I’d prefer to spend more time taking in all of the sounds, smells, and sights than worrying about looking cute.
What is your biggest piece of advice for planning steps before booking a trip?
What are your five go-tos for a glamping stay?
- My daughter
- My camera
- My Sovrnrepublic backpack
- Bug spray and sunblock (Gotta stay comfortable!)
- A swimsuit
What was your favorite memory from your glamping getaway?
My favorite memory from my glamping experience was our evening routine. I would watch my daughter swing and belly laugh on the hammock chair, which hung over the creek while I sat in a chair on the water. Then we would clean up and get into our pajamas for s’mores around the campfire—beautiful memories!
Where are you looking to glamp next and why?
I want to stay in a tree house next! I mean…who didn’t dream of spending the night in a tree house as a child? It’s time to make that dream a reality.
