Guest Spotlight: Jill of “Lune Blog”

Editor’s Note: We’d like to introduce you to blogger Jill of "Lune Blog," who recently stayed at this family-friendly cabin near Yosemite National Park in California. Read on to hear her luxury camping experience and a brief interview about her first time glamping!

Choose three adjectives to describe the glamping site you stayed at before your trip and another three words to describe it post- stay. How did your expectations measure up to reality?

Pre-stay to our glamping site just outside of Yosemite National Park I would choose the adjectives secluded, spacious, and rustic to describe my expectations.

After our experience staying in Backcountry Haven, I would have refined my adjective choice to also include peaceful, luxurious, and welcoming. The cabin was indeed secluded, but in a peaceful way, which also was supported by community. The rustic ambiance was done in such a thoughtful way that it felt completely luxurious. It exceeded expectations.

Who did you go glamping with, and what was your favorite memory that you made together during the stay?

We were very fortunate to travel all the way from Manitoba, Canada, to California, and during our stay, spending two wonderful days in Backcountry Haven, which is located in Sierra National Forrest and a short drive to Yosemite National Park.

Our travel group consisted of myself, my husband, my son and daughter, and my parents. Our Glamping Hub rental was the best one of the entire two week trip, since it allowed our larger family group to have their own private spaces and places to relax after a long day of exploring.

One of my favourite memories was having all of us cook a meal and sit down together at the dining table, just like we would at home. Stargazing together on the open porch afterward was one of the most peaceful moments of our entire summer.

What was the best part about the accommodation? How does it compare to past places you’ve stayed?

Honestly I wasn’t expecting the amount of space and amenities that came along with this glamping property. Although the log cabin had many rustic elements and a California ranch vibe (horse stable included), we were well equipped and completely comfortable. Everything was easy, clean, and taken care of. All we needed to do was enjoy the outdoors during the day and relax in comfort during the evenings.

Describe to us the area around the glamping site. What do you think the perfect time of year to stay here would be, and why?

We visited during the month of July. Since this area of California is experiencing a drought, the environment was pretty parched and hot. In fact, while visiting Yosemite, we wondered where the waterfalls went! Despite this, we still found the area very beautiful.

I think springtime would be a great time to visit, since I hear the waterfalls are best just after winter. At Backcountry Haven, I would also love to see the transition from autumn into winter and to take advantage of charming wood stove in the cabin.

Tell us one thing about your first glamping experience that surprised you and why.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the helpful, welcoming, and friendly attitude of our glamping hosts. They have made it easy to feel relaxed and at home in their beautiful lodgings.

If you could have invited a famous celebrity (dead or alive) over to your glamping site, who would it be, and what would you have done together?

Joni Mitchell would be invited and hopefully might play guitar as we sat on that big porch, sharing bottles of wine, chatting, and spotting shooting stars.

What is your ideal food item and beverage for a glamping trip, and why? If you have a special secret or recipe, please share with us—if you’re willing, of course!

We love to make pizza and have some favourite bottles of white wine, complimented by a fresh salad. Eating something simple and filling is so comforting. The less dishes, the better! Our kids enjoy it too, with sparking juice instead, of course.

Do you prefer a more active or more relaxing getaway? Which did you opt for at the glamping site, and what was the best related activity in the area?

We always try to take advantage of every opportunity to be active, see new sights and try new things while glamping. Horseback riding was the only activity we weren’t able to enjoy, but we did take a walk to visit the neighbors horses. Our main goal is to get in so much fresh air each day that we sleep like babies. In that, we definitely succeeded!

Fill in the end of the sentence: “This glamping site would be the perfect place for ____________________,” and tell us why!

An active family or large group of friends to getaway and fish, swim, hike, and ride horses!

Would you recommend glamping to family and friends? Do you see yourself going glamping again? Let us know why!

We can’t wait to have the chance to go glamping again and basically never stop recommending it to friends and family! It’s the only way to go!
