Editor's note: Each month, we'd like to introduce you to one of our wonderful Glamping Hub hosts and what inspired them to create a glamping site. This month, we have Ciel, who manages
a magical dome tree house and Italian-style cottage in Topanga near Malibu, California.
1. When was the first time you heard the term glamping?
I thought "glamping" was a term I came up with back when I opened the woodlands here in 2011! I had no idea it was to become a popular word around the world. In fact, I came up with it as I stood on the huge wooden bridge that spans a small stream between the cottages in the woods here.
I was dreaming about the tipis I was thinking of putting in, down by the stream and the meditation area, and I said to my friend,"It's going to be 'glamping' instead of camping," because I always do everything as luxurious and glamorous as possible! So I first heard it out of my own mouth many years ago.
2. What inspired you to have your own glamping site?
Four years ago, I realized I needed to open up this family land for as many people to enjoy its tranquility, peace, healing, and beauty as possible. I began with the main tree house and expanded to what is now our Magical Dream Dome Tree House, where couples (and singles) have been coming to stay from all over the world. They always leave with the same amazing reviews of this magic and always return.
3. If you could describe your property or the glamping experience you offer in three words, what would they be?
Luxury, rustic, and magical.
4. What was your first glamping/camping experience?
Here at my property—I haven't experienced what I do anywhere else!
5. Why would you recommend people to go glamping?
Well, that would depend on the person. For example, I know people that just want to camp in a basic tent on the side of a mountain, and those travelers would not be interested in camping with all the luxury and romance we offer here. But if the travelers expressed an interest in staying in the woods or on the side of a mountain, but didn't want to have to use an outhouse or actually heat their water over a fire, I would highly suggest "glamping."
There you can experience all of nature and the feeling of living outdoors, but in a certain "lap of luxury" at the same time, including French press coffee, a wood-burning pellet stove, a hot shower, a regular toilet, a bottle of frizzante, and hand-ironed linens.
6. What should people expect when they come to your glamping site?
They can expect a feeling of total privacy, peace, tranquility, romance (definitely!), and a bit of unexpected luxury, all in the great outdoors. Meanwhile, inside, they will have a feeling that they've just stepped into a tree house in Provence or Tuscany, with fresh flowers everywhere, fine linens, down duvets, organic breakfasts, and more. It's definitely not your average glamping experience!
7. What makes your property unique?
The whole entire property here in the woods of Topanga Canyon is absolutely magical and completely unique. You have to experience it just once, and you will "get it" immediately. The land is situated in a woodland of oaks and eucalyptus and is cross-connected by bridges—both an enormous dining bridge and a foot bridge to a lower mediation area.
I am a professional chef, so our clients are offered the opportunity to order a very custom, totally private multi-course French Country or Italian dinner in the woods under the stars, or in inclement weather, in the main tree house cottage over the stream. We also offer private meditation, yoga, all modalities of massage therapy and Ayurvedic healing, and acupuncture.
A guest can sleep in the dream dome under the huge octagonal skylight and fall asleep under the stars, and wake up to a morning organic breakfast, followed by a massage on the bridge in the woods, and end with a private dining experience under the stars. The whole retreat is incredibly special and unique, which is attested to by our 198+ five-star reviews!
8. What’s your favorite part about owning a glamping property?
There is a lot I love about hosting this magical glamping experience here, but I would say the best is the people I've met from all over the world in the four years we've been open. Magic...100% magic.
9. What makes your property eco-friendly?
I think probably the most important eco-friendly feature is that we switched a few years back from wood-burning stoves in our cottages, to the very low footprint of the pellet wood-burning stoves. They leave very little carbon in the environment and none for the person inside the tree house. They are truly amazing, and I wish everyone would switch, as it's a huge help to the ozone.
10. Anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you for reading all this! I adore everyone over there at Glamping Hub. Although I'm obviously not new to the business, your company has fast become my favorite! You are all so appreciated!!!

She usually spends her weekends glamping, hiking, or backpacking around some of the most beautiful destinations and National Parks the U.S. has to offer. Naturally, a weekend away in one of our glamping tipis was a perfect fit!
If a weekend getaway filled with outdoor adventures, vineyards and wine tastings, and starry night skies sounds like your type of trip, let Kate show you how it's done.
What are the three words you would use to describe your glamping site?
Remote, Western, and mountainous.
How do you plan your vacations? Around destination? Around style? Around accommodation?
I usually plan my trips either around destination or lodging experience. If I have a specific place in mind, I will start there, but if I just want to get away but am not sure where, I'll do a search by type of accommodation. For example, I'm dying to spend a night in a tree house just to experience an elevated night's sleep under the stars!
How would you describe your glamping style? Chic and stylish or rustic and outdoorsy?
Rustic and outdoorsy, all the way. I'm an avid camper, so when I glamp, I can definitely appreciate the amenities and endless photo-ops most glamping accommodations provide, but I still love to keep some of that natural, rustic charm you get with camping.

Following a debate that has spanned several festival seasons, (unofficial) sources have finally confirmed that the post-Coachella blues do pose an actual threat to festivalgoers. Friends and families have been advised to look out for symptoms that include refusing to leave the house without wearing a flower crown and the inability to sleep in an actual bed.
While specialists rush to come up with advice for sufferers, Glamping Hub is here to help out however we can. Whether you're looking to avoid withdrawal symptoms by continuing to adopt the festival lifestyle or you'd like to retreat and recover for a little while, we've got you covered. With countless tents, tipis, and yurts on offer, our Insta-worthy properties are the perfect choice to continue to channel your inner Vanessa Hudgens (aka Queen of Coachella).
Rest assured that—rather than just for two weekends of the year—denim shorts, statement jewelry, and floral headwear are always welcomed by us. The best part? No waiting for April to enjoy them—these rentals offer glamping all year long and are ready to accommodate you whenever the blues are weighing you down.
Read on for advice on getting yourself out of your Coachella-induced funk, and the best spots to make it happen.
1. Keep busy.
Learning a new skill is the perfect way to keep yourself distracted from the sad reality that yet another festival season has come to an end. Among other things, a glamping getaway offers the chance to enjoy kayaking, zip-lining, and horseback riding.
One of our personal favorites is this gorgeous, bohemian-style bell tent. Not only is it ideally situated right on the coast in New South Wales (proof that festival fans don't have to stick to California for their getaways), the hosts provide guests with a boat to use for exploring. A day spent sailing will definitely keep your mind occupied!
2. Create a playlist.
Considering that the general consensus is that this was Coachella's best year ever, it would be totally understandable to want to relive it. Spotify offers a wide range of playlists to keep you satisfied until next year, and this secluded safari tent makes the perfect setting to blast them out. Completely secluded in Zion National Park, Utah, glampers definitely won't need to worry about noise complaints from the neighbors while playing Kendrick on repeat.
3. Go on a health kick.
Following two full weekends of indulgence, a detox is a great way to keep yourself feeling good post-festival season. While glamping, guests will be able to enjoy a diet of delicious fresh produce that's definitely a little fancier than a standard festival burger van. Think free range eggs, homemade jams, and organic fruit and veg. Obviously, no judgment from us if guests decide to slip back into their Coachella ways to see out the day with a delicious craft beverage or cocktail.
Here at Glamping Hub, we are big believers in sharing moments and not things. More than anything, festivals are famous for being a chance to create unforgettable memories, and Glamping Hub is here to provide the perfect spots for when you're feeling nostalgic. Take this romantic yurt rental located to the east of Rome, in one of the greenest regions of Europe. Not only will the gorgeous panoramic views look just as impressive on your Instagram as that Coachella snap, but the rental's rooftop terrace definitely wouldn't make the worst spot to reminisce about the 2017 festival season.
5. Lean on your loved ones.
Support from your friends is absolutely crucial to shake off the post-Coachella blues. At this property in Texas, there are five amazing tipis that can accommodate a group of 30 in total. The term 'fully furnished' is not taken lightly—guests can expect a private kitchen and bathroom. There is even a hot tub where you can all reflect and begin counting down the days to Coachella 2018.
P.S. Not just for glampers that are missing Coachella, a Glamping Hub getaway is the perfect option for those that missed out on one of the biggest events of the festival calendar and have always dreamed of going. Check out more Coachella-esque accommodations here!
Nestled amid the San Jacinto Mountains, Idyllwild provides the perfect setting for any glamper looking to escape the hustle and bustle of California's biggest cities, and instead enjoy a stay among the tall pines, fragrant cedars, and rugged trails of a small mountain town. Though it has become increasingly popular for tourists in recent years, Idyllwild maintains that small town charm that lured so many visitors to begin with.
Most recently, Karilyn of No Back Home, visited one of our cozy woodland cottages in the heart of Idyllwild.
As a California native, Karilyn had been waiting to visit this secluded mountain town for some time but hadn't found the opportunity to do so. She was finally able to cross it off her list this past month, but we'll let her tell you more about her idyllic stay with her family in Idyllwild.
Were you and your family familiar with glamping before your stay?
My family loves the experience of glamping. However, before our recent stay with Glamping Hub in Idyllwild, our views of glamping were a little less luxurious; it meant camping in a cabin without electricity! Glamping Hub has put a whole new perspective on this for us, and we love it.
Would you recommend glamping as opposed to regular camping to other families? Why or why not?
I think glamping is an amazing way to travel for families, as it is always easier to stay in a home with access to your own kitchen and space to move around. Many families struggle with the idea of camping with kids, worrying about the kids getting too cold (or hot) or freaked out in the wilderness, and wondering how their own bodies will adjust to sleeping on the ground. Glamping is a great alternative to get the kids out into nature without making the parents sacrifice their comfort!
If you could pick anywhere to go glamping in the world, where would you pick and why?
If we could go glamping anywhere in the world, it would have to be Africa. Staying in the middle of the Savannah or jungle, listening to the wild animals around us, would be an amazing experience. Closer to home, I would love to stay in a tree house in Central America, where we could see majestic birds and monkeys hanging out in the treetops with us!
Why did you pick Idyllwild as your glamping destination?
Coming from a major city where our lives are always go, go, go, we really enjoy getting more in touch with nature while glamping. This is why we chose to visit Idyllwild—it's only a two-hour drive from L.A., but it felt worlds away. Sitting outside listening to the sounds around us, taking hikes, and spending quality time playing games in the cabin was the best part of our trip
What is your biggest piece of advice for glamping with a family?
For families looking to take the plunge into glamping, I recommend starting off somewhat locally. Pick lodging that works well for your family: think about stairs for children and elderly; pay attention to the amenities, such as fireplaces or hot tubs; and choose a location that offers comfort within a magical outdoor setting!

The number of benefits to glamping is countless, including enjoying the great outdoors, the luxury of a hotel, and—best of all—the chance to meet other travelers who share your love of nature. It's a great way to make new friends or even find your soulmate!
If you want to find and reconnect with people you’ve met on your glamping trips, you can search them on Google and social media. Alternatively, you can use a people search site to be able to reach out to your newfound friends.
But of course, before you get to that, you need to know first where you can have the best luxury camping experiences! Here’s a list of the top glamping spots in California—the ultimate destination—for seasoned travelers.
Just by looking at its exterior, you’ll immediately notice the rustic appeal of this cottage in Idyllwild, California, that mirrors the old school charm of cabins back in the day. But once you enter it, you’d be surprised at all the modern entertainment facilities, like a SmarTV with stereo sound and audio and video streaming. Its kitchen also comes fully equipped with items you’ll need to easily prepare your own meals.
If it gets too cold at night, this woodland cottage has an indoor fireplace where you can cozy up while you watch your favorite movie. And even if you don’t light up the fireplace, you’ll be kept warm since the accommodation is heated all year round.
The sleeping area is in the upstairs loft, which is delightfully furnished with comfy beds that will make you wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. A washer and a dryer are also provided, so you don’t have to worry about running out of clothes to wear.
Aside from the many conveniences it offers, this cottage can also fit six people, making it perfect for families and groups of friends.
Northern California doesn’t only have good wine and grapes—it also has some of the best glamping destinations in the United States.
If you want well-designed tents with an outdoorsy appeal, then you’ll love this luxury camping site in Mendocino County, California. Each tent is elegantly furnished—complete with a comfortable bed, a dresser, bedside tables, and lamp lights for your convenience.
Tree houses have always been perceived as a magical hideaway. Relive that enchanting feeling of staying in a tree house with this glamping accommodation in Sonoma County, California.
Upon reaching the deck, you’ll get one of the most breathtaking views of the Californian countryside. Once inside the house, you’ll see a couch where you can comfortably sit or lie down with your feet propped up. There’s also a canopied queen-size bed in the loft area that you can access by climbing a ladder. This is a fun experience for those who are a bit more agile than the rest. But if you’re not sure if your knees can take it, proceed with caution when booking this glamping facility.
You’ll also enjoy adequate natural light, as there are windows on all sides, some of which are intricately designed to fit the shabby chic theme of the tree house.
Breakfast is also offered to guests at the main house kitchen, so you can also avail of that if you wish and you’ll never have to worry about going hungry in the morning. Just make sure to advise the hosts, should you wish to partake in it.
Though it looks small from the outside given its minimalist design, this uniquely shaped cabin up in the mountains of San Jacinto, California, can actually accommodate a lot of people. Inside, it has a king-size bed, a queen-size bed, and two inflatable beds, making it an ideal option for those glamping in big groups.
It has two bathrooms: a full-size one and a half-size one, so everyone can have enough time using the bathroom. The living room also has a wood-burning fireplace that you can light up to warm yourself up during cold nights.
Make the most out of detoxifying from the city lifestyle by eating healthy during your glamping trip with the help of the hand juicer and Ninja food processors that come with regular kitchen equipment in the cabin.
Lastly, what is glamping without entertainment? Through the cabin’s rental Wi-Fi, satellite television, and stereo system with iTunes Airplay, you can watch your favorite TV shows and YouTube channels or listen to your favorite playlist while retreating in this homey cabin.
If you’re looking for an extraordinary way to enjoy the places you’re visiting, give glamping a shot. Not only will you get a comfortable place to sleep in, but it will also give you a whole new perspective about what else that particular location has to offer.
