What is a Sea Turtle? Facts and Information About Marine Life in the Ocean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many different types of Sea Turtle – seven to be exact. And you can plan a worldwide glamping adventure to see them all. You can find Leatherback sea turtles in Indonesia<\/a>), Green Turtles in Texas<\/a> and Hawksbills in the Caribbean Sea and the Seychelles<\/a>. Plan a visit to Baja California<\/a> to see Loggerhead turtles. Olive Ridley turtles are waiting for you in Nicaragua<\/a>. Nova Scotia is home to Kemp’s Ridley and finally, make your way to see the Flatback in Australia<\/a>. Sea turtles have been around for about 110 million years – which means they existed at the same time as the dinosaurs! They live for around 50-100 years and the Leatherback can grow to be between 6-9 ft long and weigh up to 2,000 pounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most challenging day of a sea turtle’s life is arguably; hatching day. Nests are found on various Sea Turtle beaches around the world and from the moment they hatch, they face a desperate life-or-death rush to the sea. This often happens at night, by moonlight, so local light in the area can lead them away from the sea. This is reflected in the numbers – it’s estimated that 1 in 1,000 sea turtles will survive to adulthood. Sea turtles are a crucial part of the ecosystem on beaches and along the seafloor, as they consume sea grass, which helps many species that depend on the vitality of this to raise their young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally, this all sounds very difficult for the turtles as they are faced with a great many numbers of challenges during their lifetime.
