Sophisticated 1940s Safari Camp, Botswana

Safari tent in Gweta, Central District

2 guests

Ten sophisticated 1940’s safari, stylish canvas tents, 7 stylishly appointed twin tents and 3 double tents, all with en-suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers (for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin), have been fashioned in a classic style. Persian rugs underfoot and cool cotton sheets form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one’s own front balcony.

Facilities include a magnificent mess tent containing a small natural history museum and library, a tea tent spread with cushions providing a sheltering sanctuary, and a tented yoga pavilion. Plated meals are elegantly presented and indulgent, and decadent teas are served daily.

Gweta, Central District

Detailed location provided after booking

Scenic views
Located in the center of Southern Africa and covering an estimated area of 581,730 square kilometers making it the size of France, Botswana is bordered by Zambia and Zimbabwe to the northeast, Namibia to the north and west, and South Africa to the south and southeast. At Kazungula, four countries - Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia - all meet at a single point mid-stream in the Zambezi River. The shortest border in the world!

The vast Kalahari Desert, the largest continuous stretch of sand in the world, covers 84% of Botswana, extending from the Orange River in South Africa to the equator in Gabon.
Activities near Gweta
  • Safari/Game drive

Venturing far into the center of the Makgadikgadi, on 4x4 quad bikes, we are able to explore remote archaeological sites, periodically discovering never-before-documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo. The fact that you can travel across the pans at great speed and still arrive nowhere only underlines the pans immensity.

A safari is a complete desert experience focusing on species unique to the area such as aardvark, gemsbuck and springbuck. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena and be able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang of habituated but, wild meerkats!
