Before flowing into and out of Golden Lake, the river begins its 145-kilometer (90-mile) journey in Algonquin Provincial Park, which is located about an hour to the east. Guests have access to a park pass for free day use.
A public picnic and beach area are located just a few minutes down the road in Deacon. About 26 miles to the east, guests will find the Bonnechere Caves, the limestone walls of which are embedded with thousands of fossils dating back millions of years. At the Bonnchere Museum, guests will find even more fossils from the Ordovician period of the Paleozoic era. Other museums in the area include the Polish Kashub Heritage Museum in Wilno, the Algonquin Way Cultural Centre in Golden Lake, and the Heritage Center and Pioneer Village in Pembroke. Guests will find a few dining options in the nearby towns of Golden Lake, Killaloe, and Barry's Bay.
