Canelos

A small village in the province of Pastaza, Canelos sits right between Parque Nacional Sangay, making it the ideal pit stop for outdoor buffs. Though a quaint location, there are touristic activities visitors can enjoy in Canelos. You can partake in a tour of the town’s surrounding jungle, take a canoe through the river of Bobonaza, and get to know the indigenous Kichwa that are based there. For those visiting Parque Nacional Sangay, be sure to check out one of their many volcanoes, especially Tungurahua, Sangay, and El Altar. These locations offer breathtaking hiking routes, and if you’re lucky, you might witness something special: the volcanoes waking up a bit and spewing plume into the sky. It might be a bit scary, but it’s certainly a moment you’ll never forget.
