The funny thing about New York is that it is the third most populous state in the U.S., but almost half of that population lives in the 300 or so bustling square miles of New York City. That leaves tens of thousands of square miles of virtually uninhabited natural landscape for the rest of us glampers to play in. New York is the only state that has coastline on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes, and in between these shores sits Adirondack state park, the largest state park in the country at 6.1 million acres. It is so expansive that it could fit Glacier, Olympic, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks inside of it. It is roughly the size of Vermont. Winters can be icy and summers steamy, but within this wooded refuge and in other parts of the state, travelers can find rustic lodges, cozy tent cabins, sunny yurts, and quaint cottages that will satisfy your luxury camping appetite any time of the year.
