Tok

Tok lies in the Tanana Valley between the Tanana River and the Alaska Range. As the trade center for the Athabascan Native villages of Northway, Tetlin, Tanacross, Mentasta, Eagle and Dot Lake it is a hot spot for Native arts and crafts. Tok is an important center for dog breeding, training, and mushing - so for anybody interested in the above, it is well worth coming in March for the Tok Race of Champions Sled Dog Race - one of the oldest races in the state. The region is also fantastic for snow machines, cross-country skiing, hunting, and trapping. And of course, the phenomenal Northern Lights are particularly stunning in this region - yet another drawcard! And head north of town to see Forty Mile Country, which inspired Jack London!
