Its close proximity to Ullswater Lake means that there are opportunities for trout fishing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Glenridding Sailing Centre offers hourly rentals of a variety of non-motorized watercraft. There are many scenic and rejuvenating walking routes to enjoy close to the property. Those looking for something more challenging can try a hike up Helvellyn, which is England's third highest mountain. The cycling and mountain biking around the area is fantastic, with trails and routes to suit every ability. Guests who take the four-mile ride to Aira Force will be rewarded with a landscaped Victorian park and dramatic waterfalls.
The whole region is filled with delicious restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and traditional taverns. The host will be able to recommend the best places to eat close to the property. There are also some superb local shops, where guests will be sure to find a unique gift or souvenir. History buffs shouldn't miss the chance to visit Penrith Castle, which is situated within a public park and is free to enter. The castle is now a ruin, but some of the walls still survive to their full height. Less than half a mile away is the Penrith Museum, with its fascinating display of Roman pottery.
