Guests can hike and ride bikes up to the nearby Cotswold and Chiltern Hills. Beyond the hills, guests will find hamlets and villages with pubs, gift shops, cafes, and a gelateria. The farm is about 15 minutes away from Bicester Village, an ancient Saxon settlement known for its designer outlet shops and charming, winding cobblestone roads. At Bicester Heritage Park, guests can see restored vintage cars, airplanes, and motorcycles in a unique period setting of tree-lined avenues and historic redbrick buildings.
Being in the heart of the Aylesbury Vale means the lodge is conveniently located near a number of historic country manors and castles. Guests can tour acres of gorgeous landscaped gardens, or hallways festooned with priceless works of art, at Claydon House, Waddesdon Manor, and the National Trust Properties' Stowe Landscape Gardens at Buckingham. Thespians can visit Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace and the current home of the British National Theater.
History buffs can visit Bletchley Park, where allied soldiers cracked the German army's top-secret codes during World War II. They can also tour Blenheim Palace, Churchill's birthplace, and a World Heritage Site, or Warwick Castle, home of famous medieval Plantagenets. For more ancient history, guests can drive two hours over to Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bookworms can spend the day touring the halls of Oxford University, only half an hour away from the lodge. Over 800 years old, Oxford has housed and educated everyone from kings and saints, to politicians and philosophers, to scientists and some of the world's greatest literary minds, like John Keats and C.S. Lewis. Oxford was a filming location for the Harry Potter films and is home to a fantastic library worth exploring.
Poundon is over an hour and a half away from London, one of the world's most famous cities. The city provides no shortage of shopping, fine dining, museums, and art galleries. Guests can tour more historical landmarks like the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and the Globe Theater. They can watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, eat fish and chips near Piccadilly, catch a show at West End, or take photos of iconic sights like Big Ben. Additionally, guests can ride the Eye of London or take a boat tour along the River Thames.
