This 65-kilometer stretch of river is home to more than 40 castles, 60 medieval towns, and some of our favorite river views. There is also the historic town of Bingen, where the river cuts through a deep gorge before entering the Bacharach valley, which is a good place to start if you’re looking to visit.

The best time to visit Germany depends on what you’re hoping to do. Summer has many advantages, from long days and moderate temperatures, but is also the busiest and most expensive season to visit. 

If you choose to travel during shoulder seasons, like in spring and fall, you will most likely find more availability and lower prices throughout the country. Throughout Germany the climate is moderately continental, characterized by cold winters. 

During the winter season, average daily temperatures are around 32° F (0°C). Summers are moderately warm, with maximum temperatures around 72/75° F (22/24°C). July and August are the hottest months and are perfect for luxury camping.
