For those eager to venture further, several exciting adventures await just around the corner. Kalafatis Beach is just a five-minute walk from the property, offering one of the most uncrowded beaches on the entire island where guests can enjoy tranquil days at a more rustic beach with convenient access to water sports, dining, mini markets, and more. Kalafatis is a large, beautiful, less developed, sandy beach and very popular among wind surfers who enjoy a good offshore breeze. A variety of water sports are also available here, including jet ski, water ski, wakeboard, tube rides, snorkeling, and diving. There are sun beds and umbrellas for rent on the beach, but there is also a section without those facilities for those who prefer more privacy. The beach has shady tree areas, and the the beach is characterized by sea plants and small fish, making it a pleasant snorkeling destination.
Aside from the bustling Mykonos Town city center with its dazzling nightlife and high-profile party scene, guests can explore further to find several displays of local culture and history, which are the true authentic gems of the island. About eight kilometers away from Mykonos Town, visitors can embark on a tour around Ano Mera for a true glimpse into local Mykonian living. This traditional village is home to residents with rural land, raising animals and cultivating their own products. The main square boasts the impressive monastery of Panagia Tourliani, built in the 15th century by two monks who arrived to Mykonos from Paros island. The famous monastery is the heart of the village, boasting a modest exterior and impressive wood carvings by Florentine craftsman on the inside. Also in the square are small restaurants, with one popular spot being Steki Proedrou, offering delicious dishes made with local meats.
Guests visiting during the summer months won’t want to miss the chance to witness the fascinating panighiri festivals, celebrating different saints by gathering around churches to host parties featuring traditional food, drinks, sweets, live music, Greek dancing, and rich tradition. Another local favorite available June through September is the Cine Manto, located in the heart of Mykonos Town. This open air cinema features worldwide released films and box office productions for adults and children, and has gorgeous gardens with a cafe serving food all day long, from Greek breakfast to barbecue, drinks, and brunches.
Visitors can do like the Greek do, and visit the Old Port on Sundays to go Ouzo tasting with sea views and good company. After one o’clock, it’s time for ouzo, the typical Greek drink flavored with anise, and for pikilia, a variety of seafood to accompany the drinks. At Bakogias in the Old Port, you will meet many residents, fishermen, families with children, and visitors from other villages on the island.
Some of the most revered beaches on the island are the isolated and less famous ones, requiring a little bit of extra work to get to them, but well worth it. Far removed from the loud music and crowded beach bars, there are some wonderful beaches for those who prefer nature in its purest form. Passing a long and deserted part of the island at the north, visitors will find Tigani and Merchia, as well as Fokos and Mersini. These rustic and pristine beaches appear to belong to another island entirely.
Finally, guests won’t want to miss enjoying sunset from Kapari, a beautiful and romantic beach located on the south side of Mykonos with fine sand, crystal waters, and golden skies.
