The breathtaking Þingvellir National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is renowned for its unique geology and natural features. The surrounding waters are wonderful for scuba diving and the area is popular with anglers due to the high concentration of brown trout and char. There are also many stunning hiking trails that cut through the abandoned farms at Hrauntún, Skógarkot, and Vatnskot. Horseback riding is another great way to explore the park and visitors should visit the parliament, which is the oldest existing parliament in the world.
