This stylish vacation rental is set on a hilltop among the rolling green hills of Umbria near Orvieto, Italy. It is the perfect destination for large families who want to live an authentic Italian experience in the countryside. It can accommodate a total of 11 guests with its six bedrooms and six full bathrooms. The farmhouse sleeps seven and the apartment can sleep an additional four guests. The ground floor of the farmhouse has two bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and one with a single bed. The second floor has two bedrooms with divisible queen-size beds and ensuite bathrooms. The west wing apartment has two bedrooms with divisible queen-size beds and ensuite bathrooms with showers. The west wing apartment also has its own living room with a fireplace, a kitchen, and a dining area. Each modern and elegantly appointed bathroom includes toilets, sinks, and either a shower or a tub. Linens and towels are provided.
This farmhouse has been carefully restored to balance tradition with modern comfort. In the rustic yet elegant living room, guests will find two comfortable couches and lounge chairs all centered around a stone fireplace. The library also provides a cozy escape for guests to lounge on a sofa or a large wingback chair, surrounded by books and natural light. The library also has a fireplace, a TV with a DVD player, and a sound system with a large collection of classical music. Throughout the rental, there are chestnut-beamed ceilings and whitewashed walls alongside modern conveniences such as air-conditioned bedrooms and Wi-Fi. It is decorated with a collection of local antiques and eclectic artwork, which have been painted by the artist-owner or acquired by the owners on their travels across the globe.
The kitchen is the heart of an Italian home and this farmhouse boasts a kitchen that is truly exceptional. One of the owners was editor-in-chief of Food & Wine Magazine, and she furnished her kitchen to delight any chef or foodie. The kitchen includes a large stove, a marble-topped island, two refrigerators, a fireplace for grilling, and many small appliances to appeal to even the most avid cooks. Off of the kitchen, there is a small table for serving up informal breakfasts and snacks. The grand dining room opens onto a tiled covered terrace that provides the perfect backdrop for home cooked meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
Outside, there are three separate terraces in addition to the pool area. Guests can begin their day with a cappuccino or enjoy an evening glass of wine on a terrace overlooking the vast expanse of green from the hills and vineyards beyond. In the summer, guests can cool off in the pool or use the air conditioning in three of the bedrooms. In addition to the pool, there are three terraces with an outdoor Webber grill and a hammock. In terms of media, the farmhouse is complete with Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a DVD player, a telephone, and a stereo with an extensive classical music collection. Additional amenities include a hair dryer in each bathroom and screened windows.
Included in the price is a standard first dinner and a basic grocery shopping list. The standard first dinner takes place on the first evening to greet guests after a long trip. It consists of pasta al forno, a vegetable tarte, salad, fruit, bread, water, and wine. It will be ready in the kitchen with instructions for heating and the menu can fit vegetarian guests as well.
The basic grocery shopping list includes supplies for the first breakfast and consists of milk, coffee, tea, bread, biscuits, sugar, salt, water, fruit, eggs, oil, butter, jam, orange juice, and cereals.

This stylish and traditional farmhouse is set among the vineyards and rolling hills of Umbria. It is in a peaceful, rural setting near the hill town of Orvieto. The farmhouse is in a secluded area and a long, unpaved road leads up to it. The property itself is surrounded by gardens including flower, vegetable, and herb gardens, as well as fruit trees that guests are welcome to enjoy. The rental is perfect for exploring Tuscany and Lazio as well as Umbria. Guests will find that Umbria is a hidden treasure. It is less well-known and has fewer tourists than Tuscany meaning guests can escape the crowds and tourist traps for an authentic, Italian experience. Guests will find that Umbria is full of charming and interesting hill towns, great art, and magnificent scenery to explore. Visitors should start by sightseeing in Orvieto. Its Gothic cathedral is considered one of the best in Italy. Guests can lose themselves wandering around the tiny ancient lanes that open up to vistas over the ramparts to the valley below. The town captivates visitors with its picturesque piazzas, lovely shops, wine bars, and world-class dining. Twice each week, Orvieto has a renowned outdoor market. This town is full of history and guests can explore Etruscan tombs and underground caves. Visitors during the end of December shouldn’t miss the jazz festival held each year.
Other nearby towns to tour include Baschi (four miles away), Civita de Bagnoregio (nine miles), Todi (20 miles), Perugia (45 miles), Pienza (48 miles), Assisi (53 miles), and many more within 70 miles of the property. Guests can also take day trips to Rome and Florence, which are easily accessible by high-speed trains.
Those looking to get outdoors can explore the lakes and natural parks in the area. Lago de Bolsena is Europe's biggest volcanic lake and has black sand beaches that are free to tourists. Lago de Bolsena, Lago de Corbara, and River Tiver offer fishing for carp eel, catfish, rudd, tench, and black bass. On the lakes, guests can enjoy boating, sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, and swimming. For land activities, there is hiking and mountain biking along the lake and in the surrounding hills. A horseback riding stable is only a few miles away from the property.
