Ninety Mile Beach, situated on the western coast of the far North Island of New Zealand, is a picturesque stretch of smooth sand, blue skies, and waves ready to welcome swimmers and fisherpeople alike. Guests visiting in March might try to compete in or watch the Snapper Classic, hosted on Ninety Mile Beach every year. Surfcasting fishing is highly popular in the area and can be easily observed on the Harrisons Cape Runner tour, where guests are driven up and down the long highway of Ninety Mile Beach. Guests can also hop on the Cape Reinga tour to learn fascinating Maori legends and visit what is believed by the Maori to be the departing place of recently deceased spirits. Cape Reinga is also where the Tasman and Pacific Oceans meet, so guests visiting the lighthouse can witness the tides colliding, creating massively unsettled waters right off the coast. Swimming and boating are must-dos while staying at the park, especially during the warmer months. All kinds of beach and water equipment, such as quad bikes, blokarts, soccer zorbs, surfboards, mountain bikes, sand toboggans, boogie boards and wetsuits can all be rented at the Ahipara Adventure Center. For days when guests might have had a bit too much sun, nearby Kauri museums in Awanui and Houhora provide hours of entertainment and alluring tales of the history of the land and its inhabitants.
