When is the Best Time to Visit North Island?
Isolated in the Southwest Pacific, New Zealand weather can be fairly unpredictable and you may very well get all four seasons in one trip. With seasons opposite to the Northern Hemisphere, most people visit during the summer which is December through February. Summer on the North Island is warm and bustling with temps ranging from 20-24⁰C (68-75⁰F).
March, April, and May are great months for hiking with fewer crowds and cooler temps around 17-22⁰C (62-71⁰F). Even in the winter, you can still spend time outside! The North Island is home to great winter hiking as well as ski and snowboard trails. Winter temperatures stay around 11-15⁰C (51-59⁰F).
