The farm is set at the base of the Maungatautari Ecological Reserve (also known as Sanctuary Mountain), where guests will find 3,400 hectares of wetlands and conifer, broadleaf, and podocarp forest. Surrounded by 47 kilometers, or 29 miles, of fencing, the reserve is the largest fenced sanctuary in New Zealand and provides a refuge for many of its endangered species, including tuatara, kaka, and kiwi.
About 15 minutes to the northeast, guests will find the town of Cambridge, where the Waikato River flows through the center of the town before widening into Lake Karapiro, six kilometers to the east, providing prime spots for aquatic recreation along the way. In the surrounding countryside, guests will find one of New Zealand's top destinations for cycling, with a number of trails winding through farmland, horse pastures, forests, and small villages.
