Clifton

A popular area with beaches, Clifton is a fun little spot in Hawke’s Bay. Visitors traveling through the region should certainly stop to indulge in the natural areas that surround it, including Cape Kidnappers. Clifton is also where a famous trail starts and takes you along “Māui's fish hook.” The hike will introduce you to the world’s largest gannet colony and takes five hours to complete. You’ll also see “papa” rock—a type of gray siltstone that formed millions of years ago. Those that reach this spot can see panoramic views of the coast and watch waves crash onto them. After enjoying Clifton’s outdoors, be sure to stop by Clifton Café, where you’ll delight in taste fish and chips and steak sandwich.
