About this place
This stylish converted shipping container is perched on a hill overlooking 20 acres of bush and kauri forest on the magical Wild Kauri Coast, North Island, and can accommodate two guests.
There is one spacious bedroom and one bathroom inside this container retreat. The beautifully renovated bedroom features a queen-size bed, comfortable linens and pillows, views of the forest, and plenty of natural light. The luxurious bathroom has a modern shower with hot water, a toilet, and a sink. Towels and basic toiletries are provided.
There is a clean and basic kitchen with a two-burner stovetop, a tea kettle, utensils, and basic cooking essentials. There are two barstools that pull up to the kitchen counter for comfortable dining overlooking the forest. There are solar-powered lights located throughout the bedrooms and the entire container.
Outside, glampers will find a small porch with two Adirondack chairs for lounging on a lazy morning while enjoying a cup of coffee and admiring the peace and stillness. There is as a patio umbrella available to set up around the front yard for a picnic or sunbathing. Last but not least, guests will be pleased to find an indulgent bathtub for a warm soak under the stars, with a tiki torch to create a relaxing ambiance.

The Trounson Kauri Park is just five minutes away from the property, a mainland island and 586-hectare reserve featuring an impressive stand of kauri trees. The Tane Mahuta, or “Lord of the Forest,” is an iconic giant kauri tree in the Waipoua Forest, just 20 minutes away from the property. There are also guided eco-tours of the giant trees in the forest, highlighting the fascinating ancient history of the Waipoua Forest and its earliest inhabitants.
Guests are a 20-minute drive from Kai Iwi Lakes, part of a recreational reserve, with their crystal clear freshwater and dramatic scenery. These lakes are great for all ages to spend fun-filled days swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, fishing, diving, boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, and more. The deep dune lakes are rimmed by warm shallow water making it pleasant for a lazy afternoon float and safe for kids to run and splash around. Those more inclined to get some exercise on land can cycle or hike around the lake perimeter over farmland to the ocean. The lakes are a fisherman’s dream, teeming with rainbow trout, kōura, crab, freshwater mussels, native, and exotic fish.
Guests can travel about one hour and 15 minutes to Whangarei to visit the breathtaking Whangarei Falls, which tumble over a cliff into a natural pool, or check out the volcanic Mount Parihaka, a war memorial overlooking the city and showcasing the remains of the Maori villages.
Beach lovers will be pleased by the exquisite coastline that awaits just a short drive away from the property. Baylys Beach, about 35 minutes away, is a highly coveted beach for swimming, sunbathing, walking, surfing, golfing, and horseback riding. Baylys is also the gateway to Ripiro Beach, New Zealand’s longest driveable beach, spanning 112 kilometers.
