This seaside town may be quiet, but there is plenty to see and do! Nestles within Hokianga Harbor, it is home to many heritage buildings from the old Kauri milling days. Heritage villas, the Masonic Lodge, the Anglican Church, a police station, and an old school, are all right in the town. The Geddes Gallery and the Village Arts Gallery are great for wiling the afternoon away, and those seeking a bit more of an outdoor experience can try out some kayaking or some fishing right off the wharf in the town. Koke Cafe is renowned for its very good coffee and excellent gourmet pies - a must try!
Just two and a half miles away is the Hokianga ferry landing, where guests can take their vehicle to Rawene, on the other, southern side of the harbor, and visit the No 1 Parnell Gallery or Clendon House for a bit of history. At just a couple of hours away by car, Whangarei also has a lot to offer, with anything from outdoor activities such as the Mount Manaia Track, great for getting out and hiking and exploring, as well as the Bream Head Coast, boasting lots of coastal walks. Explorers will have a great time looking around Abbey Caves, a free attraction and a great opportunity to go caving, and those looking for a bit more of an adrenaline rush, Skydive Ballistic Blondes Whangarei is a great option.
