There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. The Hobbiton Film Set, which was used for both the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit film series, is located in nearby Matamata. The world-famous mountain biking tracks at the Waipa Forest and The Redwoods are only a short drive away. Due to the pastoral setting, there are plenty of opportunities to meet farm animals, including donkeys, alpacas, bunnies, hens, ducks, and cats. Guests can also bottle feed the lambs. The surrounding area is also excellent for fishing and horse riding. Lastly, many local Maori cultural sites dot the surrounding land.
