Set in the Waikato Region of New Zealand's North Island, this accommodation is located at a bed and breakfast lodge in Karapiro, where it is perched on top of a ridge overlooking the lake from which the area gets its name: Lake Karapiro. The latter is an approximately 1,920-acre lake on the Waikato River, both of which are popular waterways for recreation.

From the lodge, guests can see both the lake and Mount Maungatautari—an eroded volcano that is surrounded by one of the longest pest-proof fence in the world. Inside of the 47-kilometer (29-mile) fence, guests will find a 3,400-hectare (3,399-acre) ecological island and wildlife sanctuary containing protected forests and wetlands, which are home to an array of endangered plants, wildlife, and birds, such as takahe, kiwi, and kaka.

The lodge is about 16 minutes from the town of Cambridge, where guests will find a variety of cafes, pubs, art galleries, and antique shops. Within an hour's drive, guests can reach a variety of attractions, including the forests and nocturnal kiwi enclosure of Rainbow Springs Nature Park, the two-kilometer (1.24-mile) nature trail and 50 outdoor sculptures of the Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum, the Hobbiton Movie Set from the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit film trilogies, the beaches of both the east coast and the west coast, such as Mt Maunganui and Raglan Beach, and the many wineries of Waikato and its neighboring regions, such as Mills Reef, Vilagrad Winery, Morton Estate, and Mystery Creek.

The lodge is about 34 minutes from Hamilton, where the nearest international airport is located. Read More
