Karapiro

Visit the man-made lake of Karapiro, where you’ll find plenty of venues that offer group kayaking activities and other watersports. Not far from Cambridge, Karapiro is one of New Zealand’s premier rowing spots. There are many watersport events there every year, including yachting, powerboating, canoeing, and water skiing. Foodies will enjoy fresh seafood from the restaurants near the lake. Nearby the lake is Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, an ecological island home to an ancient forest with many of New Zealand’s endangered species like skinks, frogs, and geckos. The reserve is also home to a 52-foot-high forest canopy viewing tower—a spot you’ll want to visit for pretty photos of the region. Call Karapiro your home during your next getaway and enjoy the outdoor adventures North Island has to offer.
