Opotiki

The small town of Opotiki is based in the eastern part of the Bay of Plenty; as such, it’s a great stop for those looking to enjoy scenic beaches with fluorescent waters. A calm and slow town, you’ll find yourself deep in the moment the minute you reach Opotiki. The town’s main street is decorated with Maori-dedicated works from master carvers. History buffs should visit Opotiki Heritage & Agricultural Society for a look at the town’s history from when pioneers arrived in the 1930s. During warmer weathers, take to the town’s coast and enjoy the sands of Opotiki Beach. It offers great waves for surfers, and there are plenty of river bars scattered down the beach where you can drink and eat.
