Warkworth

Founded in 1853, Warkworth is a town glistening with colonial history. Today, you can still find the Brighouse there. It’s the oldest surviving building in the town and also offers great dining options. Warkworth is also near Mahurangi River, where you’ll see plenty of boats cruising through the waterways to and from Auckland. The river’s bank serves as a great spot for picnic activities. During warmer weathers, the town serves as a gateway to the many beaches and wine regions that make Matakana Coast Wine Country. As such, you can’t go wrong with stepping out for a quick detour under the sun or through quaint little vineyards. Those looking to indulge in Warkworth’s history should walk the Heritage trail where you’ll old ruins still lie from when the settlement first emerged.
