Guests who choose this region normally do so for its natural beauty and its laid-back charm. The activities on offer here revolve around being outdoors and close to nature. Hiking is one of the most popular pastimes, with miles and miles of trails to explore. A few miles north of the property is the start of the Heaphy Trail, which provides a choice of hikes, for varying abilities. All of these hikes boast lovely views and unique scenery. Mountain biking is also extremely popular here, with many glorious rides to choose from. The Old Ghost Road is a long-forgotten gold miners' road which has been revived as a mountain biking trail, and the Heaphy Track runs through the national park and offers some of the best scenery in New Zealand.

Those who want to take to the water can do so by kayak or raft, on the Karamea River. Equipment is available to rent nearby, from Karamea Outdoor Adventures. Alternatively, there is plenty of great river swimming in good holes in the Wanganui, Karamea, Oparara, and Kohaihai Rivers. Swimming in the open sea on this part of the coast can be dangerous and is best left to experienced surfers, who will find plenty of great breaks at the local beaches. The Karamea River is a genuine fisherman's paradise. Its reputation for world-class trout fishing is ever-increasing, and guests will find many local businesses who will help them to discover the best local fishing spots.

Golfing enthusiasts can get their fix at the nine-hole Karamea Golf Course. Set on the coast, it highlights some of the most spectacular local scenery and can be found only a five-minute drive from the property.
