Franz Josef Glacier

A maritime glacier located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park; Franz Josef Glacier is one of the coolest attractions in South Island. More than 250,000 people visit the glacier every year, and there are plenty of guided and unguided tracks that go up and onto the glacier, except when it’s unstable. Then you would take a scenic helicopter ride to the top of it. Franz Josef Glacier is part of Te Wahipounamu, a protected Heritage Site, and is also the mouth of Waiho River. Many regard the glacier as the gem of New Zealand’s west coast, and also one of many must-see sights on Earth, so be sure to pay a visit to the natural wonder. You won’t regret the experience.
