Those who love the outdoors will find plenty to see and do in the area. Walking and hiking trails are in abundance here, with many different options available. There are routes to suit all abilities, and glampers can choose from beaches, coastal paths, downtown streets, and rainforest tracks. Many of the routes are also suitable for biking and horseback riding. Guests will be able to take to the water in a variety of ways. With multiple rivers and two lakes, the Hokitika area has opportunities for boating, kayaking, and rafting. Keen fishermen will be able to reel in perch on Lake Mahinapua, salmon on Lake Kaniere, and trout on the Hokitika River. From the beach, there's the chance to catch snapper and whitebait. While this part of the coastline isn't really suitable for swimming or surfing, Hokitika Beach is a beautiful place to enjoy walking, picnicking, and breathtaking sunsets. Golfing enthusiasts will find a scenic, picturesque course at Hokitika Golf Club, which boasts 18 holes with amazing views of Mount Cook and the Southern Alps.

Guests looking for that unique gift or souvenir will love the eclectic selection of shops in Hokitika. There are very few big name stores here, with lots of places to find local arts, crafts, and trinkets. For a great dining experience, glampers can head downtown, which is home to an array of cafes and restaurants, selling everything from simple fish and chips to five-star gourmet cuisine. Hokitika has a rich history and heritage, with many fascinating things to see and do. There are some lovely examples of architecture from the past, such as the Regent Theatre and the Carnegie Building. The latter houses a number of museum exhibits and treasures. The town was founded during the gold rush of the 1860s, and glampers can still go panning for gold to this day. This is a fun family activity, and guests can take part in this at Ross or Goldsborough, both of which have historic goldfields that are open to the public.
