Scenic views
The lodge is situated on the Danseys Pass, a largely unsealed road that winds through the Kakanui Mountains, linking Central Otago with North Otago. To the south and the west lies the Maniototo Plain, which presents guests with a vast, sweeping landscape of tussock grasslands grazed by sheep, punctuated by the occasional rock outcropping, and backdropped by rugged mountain ridges. As the plain approaches the mountains, it becomes more hilly and forested with a variety of pines, such as Douglas fir and larch.
About 20 minutes to the southwest, guests will come to the town of Naseby, where they will find restaurants, museums, tennis courts, a bowling green, a golf course, and the Naseby Indoor Curling Rink. In the nearby Naseby Forest recreation area, guests can enjoy a variety of activity options and facilities, including hiking and biking trails, fishing and swimming dams, and an ice luge. The site is about two hours from Dunedin, where the nearest international airport is located.
