Originally built in 1862 to provide accommodation to travelers passing through the Kyeburn Diggings mining settlement during the Otago Gold Rush, this historical lodge near Ranfurly, New Zealand, has been carefully refurbished to preserve the core aspects of its original building and retain its 19th century character, all while bringing its comforts and amenities into the 21st century.

Located in a separate building about 100 meters away from the main building of the lodge, this lovely vacation rental provides up to four adult guests and two children with two bedrooms, which share a full bathroom. Each of the bedrooms features a queen-size bed. Two rollaway beds or cots (one per bedroom) are available if children are accompanying the guests. The bedrooms are connected by the bathroom. Linens and towels are provided. Other amenities include central heating, facilities for making coffee and tea, and Wi-Fi access throughout the lodge's public spaces.

The public spaces include a lounge, a bar, and a dining room/restaurant. The lounge provides an ideal place to relax, socialize, or warm up after a long day outside, with ample seating set around a large fireplace in a rustic, cozy setting distinguished by wood floors, brick walls, and vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available at the dining room/restaurant, while an extensive range of wines, whiskeys, and other liquors can be ordered from the bar and sipped by the warm glow of the fireplace.

The lodge thus provides guests with an accommodation that is not just a place to sleep while they explore the many attractions of the surrounding Maniototo region, but also a destination onto itself—a place for them to unwind, dine, drink, and enjoy each other's company in its unique, welcoming, and peaceful atmosphere, which evokes the bygone days of the gold rush-era while celebrating the pleasures of the present.

The lodge's restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a similarly cozy and rustic setting. For breakfast, guests can enjoy blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, eggs Benedict, and tea or freshly ground coffee. The lunch and dinner menus feature locally-grown produce and can be paired with the restaurant's extensive selection of wines, whiskeys, and other liquors.
