On the west coast of the South Island in New Zealand, you will find dramatic fjords and glacial landscapes. Among these, the Milford Sound is popular to visit. The North Island is also home to the Bay of Islands, an enclave encompassing more than 140 subtropical islands. The Bay of Islands is an amazing holiday destination and has become known for its pristine beaches, big-game fishing, and Maori culture and artifacts.

The seasons here are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere and the climate is extremely variable. New Zealand's summer season runs from December to February and has the best overall weather, with temperatures averaging from 20 - 30ºC (65 - 85°F). 

Autumn, or fall in New Zealand, is from March to May and is a time of spectacular color changes, especially when you visit places like Wanaka and the Otago region. 

Winter in New Zealand runs from June to August with temperatures between 10 - 15ºC (50 - 60°F). 

Spring is a great time of year to visit New Zealand, from September to November. This provides perfect conditions for whitewater rafting as the mountain snow starts to melt!
