Things to do in Extremadura
There are countless things to do in Extremadura, as it is home to some of the most beautiful rustic landscapes in Spain, and the Monfragüe National Park has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve. Extremadura is truly a place where you can feel a close relationship with nature. Perfect for rural tourism or ecotourism, there is plenty to do in the countryside, from walking the famous Roman route, the Vía de la Plata, to water sports on the rivers and some fantastic bird watching opportunities.
The imprint of the Romans is still visible in Extremadura with the 21 monuments included in the archaeological ensemble of Mérida, an ancient city where you can find a Roman theater, ancient Roman houses full of murals and mosaics, bridges and aqueducts and a Temple of Diana in remarkable condition. In Cáceres, the old town has wonderful medieval architecture to admire, while the Monastery of Guadalupe is a spectacular Gothic complex protected by UNESCO. Extremadura is an incredibly beautiful and excellent region for nature lovers, with fascinating culture and history.
