You love to hike through dense mountain forest while your pup loves to bark at woodland creatures, and Flathead National Forest is the ideal travel destination for you both. At the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the Flathead National Forest is one of America’s national treasures. The park lies just south of the Canadian border, and preserves 2.4 million acres of land in the western part of Montana. These conservation efforts are a boon to the bald eagles, timber wolves, Canadian lynx, and bull trout that inhabit the land. Downhill skiers have reason to celebrate, too, since the park house two excellent downhill ski resorts. In warmer months, hikers and bikers can enjoy hikes in many areas of the park, including 38 miles of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail. As if this weren’t enough to have us reaching to book our flight, the park is home to over 1,000 pristine lakes. We are smitten and think you will be too, so check out this list of the pet-friendly accommodations in the backyard of Flathead National Forest.
