While the rugged terrain in and around Bend is perhaps best known for its excellent ski resorts, the region shows a whole new face in spring. Longer days and warmer temperatures melt the Cascade Mountains’ snowy peaks and feed the ice-blue lakes and rivers below. The hills and valleys, now covered in rolling green grass, sprout wildflower blossoms that paint the landscape in vibrant yellows, blues, and reds. Nature’s vernal canvas stretches to the Pacific Coast, where spectacular views can be enjoyed on a number of excellent coastal hikes, including the picturesque Oregon Dunes Loop and the Heceta Head Trail in Siuslaw National forest, which ends at a historic lighthouse. The Pacific Ocean has never looked as spectacular, framed by daffodils and poppies. Don’t take our word for it.
