The rugged terrain of Mendocino National Forest is spectacular at any time of year, but truly comes alive in the spring. Come March, longer days coax the wildflowers into blossom, painting the mountains and valleys in vibrant orange, blue, and yellow. Nature’s vernal canvas stretches out of the park and westward to the Pacific, where spectacular views can be enjoyed on a number of excellent coastal hikes, including the picturesque Mendocino Headlands Trail and the Fort Bragg Coastal Trail. For the fitness-oriented, the Ecological Staircase Trail offers a cardiovascular challenge and picturesque views through Jug Handle State Natural Reserve’s five marine terraces. The Pacific Ocean has never looked as spectacular, framed by daffodils and California poppies. Don’t take our word for it.
