Gunnison is 1.6 million acre forest, located between the Grand Mesa and the White River National Forest in the western part of Colorado. Visitors may always find things to do or to stay near Gunnison National Forest as it is a big recreational area. The forest draws hikers from all around the world to its diverse trails to explore its big mountains, wildlife, and rugged canyons. There about 3,500 miles of trails for good hiking and cross-country skiing during winter. The most popular destination is to the west of the natural area called Black Canyon that is 48 miles long. It includes hiking canyon tours, fishing and boat tours as well. It is also a well-known center for climbing. The flora and fauna of the region is varied — travelers may find glimpse of a black bear and mule deer in the forest.
