San Juan is a national forest in the west of Colorado and covers the territory of about 1.8 million acres. The San Juan Mountains are the largest mountain chain of the area. Hiking is among main activities here as there are plenty of picturesque trails around. One of them is Island Lake Hike, and 8 mile trail which is about 3,000 feet in evaluation which features river, waterfalls, creeks, and lakes on the way. The forest is a home for different species living in the area, such as mountain lion elk, moose, black bear, and mountain goat. There are some trails for motorcycles, bicycle riders, and snowmobile riders around the park. River rafting and tubing along Animas River is another favorite attraction of those who visit the national forest in summer.
