Mount Hood National Forest sits in the shadow of the giant Mount Hood. Measuring 11239 meters Mount Hood is the highest mountain in the state. In Mount Hood National Forest you can see waterfalls, hot springs, glaciers, and a plethora of varied wildlife. It's easy to imagine the first pioneers who crossed this area as the old Oregon trail passes through the national park and provides a glimpse into the life of those who opted to try and cross this high mountain pass rather than risk the rapids of the rivers. To experience the old Oregon trail you can walk along Barlow Road near Government Camp where you will also find Mount Hood Cultural Center and museum where you can find a little bit find out a little bit about the history of the original pioneers.
