The state of New Mexico has so much to offer for travelers seeking a new adventure. For the outdoorsy types, there are many national forests located in the state of New Mexico. One of the top places to check out is the Gila National Forest located in the southwestern region of the state. This national park has over 2 million acres of protected land and is famous for the Gila Cliff Dwellings, an archaeological site. The dwellings are a remarkable view as they reveal cave structures and ruins of the ancient Mogollon people. There is a trail to follow which leads approximately 6,000 feet above into the ancient ruins. Gila National Forest is a great weekend getaway for a new adventure!
