Description

  • Kid-friendly
Sleep in a gypsy caravan (once used in the TV series of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five) on a beautiful old cider apple orchard. The cozy caravan sleeps two in a traditional extending double bed. Bed linens are provided, as are all utensils, crockery and cutlery.

Features

  • Shower
  • Toilet
  • Running water
  • Fridge
  • Linens and pillows
  • Cooking basics
There is an open fire for cooking, but nearby, there is a heated caravan with a fridge, gas cooker and seating for rainy days.

Toilet facilities are catered for with an environmentally friendly compost bathroom. It sounds primitive but is, in fact, quite civilized. It saves water and avoids the pollution of chemical toilets. There is a shower with hot running water in a traditional shepherd’s hut nearby.

The hosts rear their own chickens, sheep, and pigs. Sausages, bacon, and eggs are available to buy from them on arrival or pre-order in advance.

Location + Surroundings

Somerset is a land of Kings, such as Arthur and Alfred, and the cradle of Christianity in Britain, the stronghold of Alfred the Great, and the scene of bloody Civil War battles. It is also famed for cider making and cider drinking, and there are numerous cider farms, each with their own unique brew. Somerset’s cider traditions led to the birth to the Wurzels.

Activities

  • Biking
  • Wildlife watching

The mystical town of Glastonbury is close by with its world famous Tor, Abbey ruins and unique hippie culture. Wells, a few miles further on, is England's smallest city. It’s worth a visit to see its magnificent Cathedral, Bishops Palace and thriving, twice-weekly farmers market.

All around are the enigmatic and magical Somerset levels from which rise the Polden and Mendip hills to the north and the Quantocks and Blackdown Hills to the west.

Whether on foot, by bicycle or car there is much to do, many places to visit and endless countryside to enjoy.
