To the west is the Lake District National Park, home to Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England. Further west is the Irish Sea, the body of water that flows in between Ireland and England. To the east is Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a major city on the northeast coast of England situated on the Tyne River. The city also has the closest airport, Newcastle International Airport, which is an hour and 45 minutes away.
