Secluded New York Camping Getaway near Sundown Wild Forest
"Very unique and secluded place perfect for a getaway. We had a great time, Nice and welcoming host."
Glamping in New York: vacations in the outdoors
This peaceful New York camping retreat has a great location next to Sundown Wild Forest and there are plenty of hiking trails in nearby Minnewaska State Park Preserve, just 20 minutes away. Along the driveway leading to the New York campsite, there is a shale outcrop, full of fossils, mostly prehistoric leaves and branches, but also occasional Brachiopods for guests to pick up so the hosts advise that guests bring a cold chisel and a mallet!
This New York vacation rental is equipped with one queen-sized bed with a memory foam mattress and the floor is insulated with rubber mats to cut down on drafts during the winter. The New York glamping site is off-the-grid which means it does not generally have access to electricity, Wi-Fi, or modern plumbing offering a true way to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature.
Larger groups can use the extra five-person pop-up dome tent that’s provided (guests are welcome to bring their own camping gear too). While on vacation in New York, guests will also have a six-foot picnic table, an outdoor fire pit, two Adirondack chairs, and a heating source to keep glampers warm and toasty at night.
The hosts advise guests to bring s'mores supplies and food, a cooler, bedding and pillows, lanterns and lighting, firewood for the campfire, and water. The hosts do welcome campers with larger parties, but they may need to bring extra camping gear of their own in addition to the tent that is already provided.
The toilet consists of a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. Guests should line the bucket with a CleanWaste bag supplied at the camp (or another appropriate plastic bag) prior to use. Afterward, guests can simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. Glampers will also have a Coleman Sun Shower which has a reservoir that holds up to five gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.
Guests can rent a canoe with paddles and life jackets for $40 and the hosts can recommend destinations like lakes, rivers, or streams to visit. Other additions include a dozen fresh (multi-color) eggs from the host's chickens for $8, firewood for $20/night, and a two-burner gas stove with a propane tank for $15/night.
