There is an opportunity to discover the beautiful villages and back roads of the North Fork and escape to another time. Award-winning vineyards abound and welcome visitors for tours, wine tasting, and local music. There are many local farm stands with outstanding produce to sample, and the local restaurants and eateries have many outstanding meals to taste, fresh from the sea, farm or field.
The local Ferry's offer trips to Shelter Island, and to Connecticut. Orient's biking and hiking trails include Orient Beach State Park, Orient Point County Park, and Dam Pond Maritime Reserve, all exquisite areas of outstanding natural beauty. The Museum Oysterponds offers a historic exploration of the area. The more adventurous can enjoy kayaking, charter boats for fishing, tour the lighthouse, and explore the National Wetlands.
