There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Glimmerglass State Park, located eight miles outside the village of Cooperstown, overlooks Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. The surrounding meadows and woodlands boast a wide variety of wildlife. There are many trails in the park, including one that snakes through the forest and ends with a commanding view over Otsego Lake. The Beaver Pond and Woodland Trails are absolutely stunning and particularly interesting for the naturalist due to their huge variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns, and mosses. The nearby town of Utica has a world-class art gallery, the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, and the Stanley Center for the Arts is a beautiful local theatre. There are several local breweries that offer tours, which is a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
