The Birdhouse is surrounded by a maple forest and meadows. It features a 6 ft skylight above the bedroom, an ode to the awe-inspiring skies of the Meeker Hollow, one of the best spots for stargazing in New York, and an 11ft-tall window wall in the living space, framing the sprawling, lush landscape. Right outside there’s a shade structure that we built out of branches from the nearby forest and a patio with private fire pit made of flat rocks from the old stone wall on the property.
Guests have access to the outdoor shower and private outhouse. The cabin is off the grid, with power provided by solar lights and battery-powered lanterns to try and keep the light pollution in the stargazing field at a minimum. Fresh drinking water is also provided.
Cell service can be spotty in the area but guests can use the Wifi near the farmhouse. The toilet is a composting outhouse, toilet paper is provided.
