At the farm, guests can visit the friendly ducks and chickens that live in the farm's historic barn and pick strawberries during the harvesting season, which runs from May to early June. They can also go on a walk or borrow a bike to ride down the wildflower-lined country road that leads from the farm to a cave they can explore.

Heading down to Clendenin, guests will find a riverside trail for hiking and biking along the Elk River, which provides opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, floating, and fishing. Kayak and canoe rentals are available from Higgs Elk River Adventures, which also offers shuttle services and guided floating and fishing trips.

For more hiking, guests can visit the Wallback Wildlife Management Area, where they can also enjoy birdwatching in an Audubon Society-designed Important Bird Area. More trails for hiking and biking can be found by the Chestnut Ridge Winery in the historic town of Spencer, providing an opportunity to combine wine tasting with the enjoyment of the great outdoors. Spencer also offers opportunities for antique shopping.
