There are ample opportunities for boating or fishing, with boats and fishing equipment available to rent. Many hiking and cycling trails weave around the grassland around the lake, and the ice-fishing here during the winter is second to none. For those wanting to experience a more urban location, the city of Des Moines is reachable by car in under two hours.
